Family Empowerment Programs

The Children's Trust Fund's Family Empowerment Programs are a group of eight diverse support programs serving parents and families dealing with poverty, domestic violence, criminal activity, substance abuse and mental health disorders - all of which put them at risk for child abuse and neglect.

While many programs focus solely on these issues, the Family Empowerment Programs use an integrated approach that helps parents address their hardships, as well as increase their involvement in the lives of their children - who are often truant, tardy and struggling with behavioral problems at school - and develop their parenting skills to improve family relationships and the overall well-being of their children.

Currently, the Trust Fund provides funds to eight community-based Family Empowerment Programs:

  • MELD for Growing Families, Family Services of Greater Waterbury
  • Mom's Program, New Britain General Hospital
  • Real Men Make Better Dads, Madonna Place in Norwich
  • Focus on Fathers, Wheeler Clinic in Somers at Osborn Prison
  • Mothershare, Hartford Interval House
  • Parenting Academy and ABCD, Child Guidance Center of Greater Bridgeport
  • Friendship Circle, Rushford Center in Middletown
  • Family School Connection, Betances School in Hartford
