In 2006, the State of Connecticut received more than 80,000 reports of child abuse and neglect, each representing someone's concern about a child's well-being.
Studies show that childhood abuse and neglect have numerous negative effects on a person throughout his or her lifetime, including increased likelihood of running away and experiencing street victimization as a child, developmental delays and higher incidence of mental healthy disabilities as adults.
