Child Sexual Abuse Prevention:
The Stranger You Know
The effects of childhood sexual abuse are profound and long-lasting. Among males, childhood sexual abuse has been linked to an increased likelihood of perpetrating child sexual abuse. Women who experienced sexual abuse as a child are more likely to physically abuse their own children.
There is a way to protect children. Research indicates that a community involvement prevention strategy is an effective means of reducing the incidence of child sexual abuse.
Contact Laura Beebe at the Children's Trust Fund at (860) 418-8763 to schedule a free community presentation led by former East Hartford Police Commander Robert Kenary on preventing child sexual abuse.
Commander Robert Kenary (Retired) is the recipient of the Martin A. Burnham Award for child abuse prevention and two official citations from the Connecticut General Assembly for child sexual abuse prevention. He spent 33 years with the East Hartford Police Department and was assigned to the FBI for two years to investigate sexual offenses against children.
His presentation reveals how parents and adults can recognize potential child predators and what parents can teach children to help prevent them from becoming victims of sexual abuse.
